1999/2000 saw a rather frustrating season for Bristol
City with a slightly disappointing 9th place finish. The season was however
rescued with a cup run all the way to Wembley in the Autowindscreen's Shield.
Although City came out of the final second best, the event was the highlight
of an otherwise mediocre season.
The departure of manager Tony Pulis did not help matters,
but the caretaker team of Tony Fawthrop, Leroy Rosenior and Dave Burnside
did a good job of managing the team to the end of the season. It was eventually
decided to appoint Fawthrop as the manager on a permanent basis, in a controversial
decision which split the board. It then arose after less than two weeks
in permanent charge that Fawthrop had a dubious financial history. This
led to his resignation and left City back at square one.
After some time manager- hunting during the close season,
ex Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley Manager Danny Wilson was appointed.
Also at this time, chairman Scott Davidson decided to step down. John Laycock
is now chairman.
So here we are at the beginning of a new season, here's hoping we can get some stability and make some progress this year!
Lets hope
there's more of this!!
